Although time has not much passed yet since our International Business Division was settled in 2019, within a short period we have achieved several milestones outside Japan.

INDONESIA

Training for Tanjung Jati B Unit 5&6 Operators

Tanjung Jati B (TJB) power station is a 2,640 megawatt (MW) coal-fired power station complex in Central Java Province, Indonesia, and is the main power supply in Java-Bali region. While the additional Unit 5 and 6 are being constructed, KPT is entrusted in training and preparing the Indonesian local operators until the units reach their commercial operation date (COD).

The training itself is not just listening to one-way lectures in a class while looking at the textbooks and manuals we prepared. We also designed several other menus such as:

Site tour in Maizuru Coal Power Plant
Case studies about equipment malfunctions, human errors and the countermeasures In this session, actual human error cases were introduced by KPT’s experienced operator and the trainees learned the appropriate way to response in case.
Practical training of safety and quality Utilizing equipment and facilities in training center, the trainees had the chance to experience dangerous operation with Japanese high-quality preventive measures. These activities increased their awareness on how important safety is, and how quality control of tools or equipment impact the daily operation.
Team building
In the training for supervising operators, trainees learned how to prepare for the role of a supervisor and how to extend the knowledge they have learned to their colleagues and subordinates. We also provided support for trainees to bring what they have learned in Japan back to their home country, share it with their workplaces and teams for the sake of the team’s capability improvement.
Japanese culture introduction
In the event where it is impossible for us to serve training consultancy and training program in person, we can proceed remotely using online system. As an example, in our most recent Training Program held in 2020, online video system was used due to Covid-19 travel restriction between Indonesia and Japan. Since we maintained our training quality to remain the same even with the online remote training, our customers were satisfied on the implementation.

Strategic Alliance with Medco Power Indonesia

Due to the good reputation of KEPCO and its group companies in several projects in Indonesia, a leading energy company in Indonesia, Medco Energi Indonesia (MEI) came into decision to create an alliance specializing in gas IPP (Independent Power Producer) and O&M (operation and maintenance) business between its subsidiary, Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) and KEPCO Group.
Meanwhile, the success of our training for TJB staff has increased our confidence in expanding our business internationally, hence we see this as an opportunity to expand our business in Indonesia. Hence, we decided to participate into the alliance.
Through this alliance, we are looking forward to serving more customers in Indonesia in the near future.

UZBEKISTAN

In 2019, Asian Engineering Consultant Co. Ltd (AEC) entrusted us to a new challenge in Uzbekistan. This time, we dispatched two of our experienced senior operators to provide training at Navoi Power Plant (CCGT; Combined Cycle Gas Turbine), located in the southwestern part of Uzbekistan.

Training Service for Simulator Instructors in Navoi Power Station

The main theme of the training is about “malfunction”. Before the dispatch, we held a hearing with AEC and carefully analyzed Navoi PS’s needs and situation. We designed the training specifically for instructors who, in the future, would teach new operators how to operate simulators installed in their facility inside Navoi PS.
