Kansai completed a Strategic Alliance with PT Medco Power Indonesia for co-development of gas-fired power generation and O&M business in Indonesia

The Kansai Electric Power Co., Inc. (Kansai) and Kanden Power-Tech Corporation (KPT), a wholly owned subsidiary of Kansai, are pleased to announce the completion of the transaction to form a strategic alliance with PT Medco Power Indonesia (MPI) with regard to the co-development of advanced gas-fired power plants along with operation and maintenance (O&M) business of thermal power plants in the Republic of Indonesia in a continuous manner.

The above three parties have concluded all the procedures needed to take over the stakes of gas-fired IPPs and O&M business from MPI including the establishment of a joint business company (Company). The Company has taken over the ownership of existing IPPs and, starts to develop new gas-fired power projects which cover O&M services as well as IPP development.

As a major group company of PT Medco Energi Internasional, Indonesia's largest listed energy company, MPI is actively expanding its power business in Indonesia and currently owns or conducts O&M business at 18 power plants with a total capacity of 3.1 GW.

This new joint venture marks Kansai's first overseas undertaking to collaborate with a remarkable domestic power developer for continuous and sustainable promotion of power business.

Mikio Matsumura, the Executive Vice President and Head of International Business Division of Kansai said "Through this alliance, we will utilize our global technical expertise to expand our power business in Indonesia along with MPI's development capability. In addition, by combining Kansai, KPT and MPI experiences in operating power plants, we are looking forward to provide gilt-edged operation services to our client as an O&M service provider."

Hiroshi Nakajima, President & CEO of KPT, expressed his solid expectation toward the successful collaboration with MPI, particularly in power station's O&M field. "MPI has an outstanding O&M experiences in Indonesia," he said, "with which we can combine our strengths in power station's O&M and fuel handling and management and shall create the impactful synergy for both companies". He is also certain that KPT's advance to Indonesia will boost the company's business expansion to many other countries in the future.
